Freeman maple (Acer x freemanii) is a naturally occurring hybrid maple tree species produced by crossing red and silver maple. It is native to North America and grows to an average height of 50-70 feet with a spread of 30-50 feet and has a rapid growth rate.
The tree has bright green leaves that turn yellow, orange, or red in the fall. The bark is smooth and gray when young, but becomes furrowed with age.
Freeman maple prefers well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade exposure. It can grow in a wide range of soil types, including sand, clay, and loam, but prefers a neutral to slightly acidic pH (6.0-6.5).
Freeman maple is drought-tolerant and can adapt to various climates, making it a good choice for large landscapes, parks, or as a shade tree.
Freeman maple is not toxic to animals.
With a deep and extensive root system, it's wise to plant your tree at least 20 feet away from the home or septic system to avoid any potential issues.
